Show BILLION DOLLARS MOREREVENIIE New Bill Provides for Over Nine Billions in War Revenue Rev-enue Estimate Made in House. WASHINGTON. Sept.. 9. A billion dollars more than the $8,114,000,000 estimated by the housew ays and means committee will be raised by tho war revenue bill, declared Representative Representa-tive Fordney of Michigan, ranking Re- i publican committee member, in addressing ad-dressing the house today when It resumed re-sumed consideration of the measure. Mr. Fordney said his estimate was predicted on the returns of last year"s bill, which is the basis of the pending; legislation. j Mr. Fordney criticized several sec-' tions" of the bill saying that capital should be more liberally defined and that the C per cent profit tax should not apply to undistributed dividends. The 6 per cent additional tax on undistributed un-distributed earnings virtually is a penalty pen-alty on business, declared Mr. Fordney. Ford-ney. Banks, he said, will bo prevented from putting money into surplus and! undivided profits because of the higher1 rate of taxation and that, he declared, "Is a serious menace to good bank ing. Mr. Fordney also opposed the provisions pro-visions in the bill permitting congress to obtain by resolution the tax statement state-ment of any company or Individual, declaring such reports unnecessary and calling attention to tho fact that when sent to congress they become public property. |
