Show ORATORICAL CONTEST 15 WON BY THE HIGH SCHOOL The Ogden High school defeated the Weber Normal college at the tabernacle yesterday afternoon in the Rich oratorical contest This makes the second successive victory in thi? contest which th- high school has won over the Weber Normal students All the subject? were drawn from patriotic topics and the students prove to be eloquent speakers. Carol W Sandslrom of the high school took the lead and won the $35 prize with the subject, 'Liberty and the American People." The second prize of $15 went to Douglas Lieshman, the winner of the first prize last year. John Culley acted as chairman of the meeting and the Judges of the contest were G M. Sullivan, an attorney of Salt Lake; Professor Quivey of the University of Utah, and Attorney D. L. Stine of Ogden Og-den The first speaker of the contest was Russell Pettj of the Weber college He chose for his subject. 'Duties of a Patrotlc American." The second speaker waa Bliss Hattlbel Shields of the Ogden High school. Her subject was, "A Tribute to Woodrow Wilson" Her Bister Miss Laurrne Shields, followed fol-lowed with a fine address on, "Our Call to Service." Karl Storey of the Weber Normal school was the fourth speaker on the program. His subject was "America's War Aims." His talk was well presented pre-sented and he received third mention. |
