Show I HE THOUSAND POSTAL CMOS ARE MAILED 10 W. 8. S. PLEDGES I Nine thousand postal cards are being be-ing distributed through the mails as reminders to those who have pledged to buy War Saving stamps this month. This work is preliminary to the careful care-ful checking which is being done by the county committee, who are taking great care that all pledgers may have an opportunity to report on their purchases pur-chases before the publication of the names of those who have failed to buy as pledged. It is indicated by the advance reports re-ports from these cards that many who have pledged to buy stamps this month have been waiting for the present pres-ent pay days to supply them with the mean's with which to fulfill their pledges, the committee therefore look for a great many purchases to be made this week and next. An example of the fine spirit with which a good many people are co-operating in this drive, occurred yesterday yester-day when a man called at the headquarters head-quarters stating that ho had bought all of the stamps that ho had agreed to buy.' but that he wanted to buy more in order to aid this county in going over the top. That hundreds of stamps will be given giv-en as Christmas gifts becomes more apparent every day. ' At a meeting of business men held yesterday at the Weber club, the conversation drifted to the giving of gifts this year. Ono man declared that the -only gifts ho was given to his family this season were war stamps and that ho had already al-ready bought twenty stamps, having a face value of one hundred dollars for each member of his family. Further Fur-ther inquiry brought out the fact that every1 man present had already bought stamps for the, making of gifts and in every case these stamps were, being bought in addition to those which the speaker already owned. "There will be no particular crpd-it," crpd-it," says Chairman Driggs, "to the man who merely gives those stamps that he already owns; what he should do Is to invest in stamps now the money he had expected to invest In other kinds of Christmas gifts." |
