(By the Associated Press) American troops today began to move into the last German territory indicated for occupation occu-pation under the term's of the armistice. armis-tice. Over five bridges thousands of soldiers sol-diers poured into the country east of the "-Rhine. The river crossed, they deployed for the advance over tho IS mile arc with Coblenz as the center. The bridgehead, it is announced, will bo occupied completely by December 16. The crossing of tho river began in the forenoon, the First, Second, and Third divisions going first. They will bo followed by the 32nd and the Ninth divisions. Two French divisions have been sent into the American bridgehead here. Two divisions numerically are equal to approximately one American. Marshal Foch sent the French divisions divis-ions to Coblenz in ordor to givo the forces of occupation in this region a more international aspect. Under this arrangement one American division has been sent to the French sector. The 20th regiment or tho First division di-vision was the first of the main forces to enter Coblenz. Its flags were flying fly-ing and the band played patriotic tunes. The inhabitants wore wholly undemonstrative and went about their business with only 'casual glances. oo |
