EMERSON DIES 01 COAST: The boom days in Ogden of 1890-91 were recalled by many old residents yesterday when the news came to hand of the death of William George Emerson, Em-erson, author and wealthy real estate man at Los Angeles which occurred Friday. His name survives' in the titles given to parts of this city as Emerson'3 Main street addition, and Emerson's addition. j I Entering the real estate business in Ogden, at a time when the popu-; lation of the city Jumped from 7,000 to 15,000 in a brief time. Mr. Emerson Emer-son platted and sold Emerson's Main street addition, which was located south of the old Eleventh ward meeting meet-ing house, in the southwest section. Later he opened up Emerson's addl- j Hon, which lies south of the Mountain View cemetery- The first tract was built up after some years, but the latter still remains in almost the or- j Being a distinguished orator, he attained at-tained considerable fame, and at a carnival held on city hall square, wherein he was the principal speaker, he was referred to as the "silver tongued orator of the Wasatch." Leaving Ogden In 1892, the decedent dece-dent went to Idaho Falls, of which he is declared the founder, and promoted pro-moted real estate development there. Later he went to Grand Encampment, Wyo., south of Cheyenne, which had grown to a good sized copper camp. Since making his home In Los An-gelese, An-gelese, Mr. Emerson amassed a fortune for-tune in real estate investments and was one of the leading men of southern south-ern California at the time of his death. "Gray Rock," a novel founded in and around Idaho Falls, Idaho, was among the novels and poetry of his genius which attained national circulation. circu-lation.
