Show oo NOT TO BELIEVE WOULD BE TO GO MAD. A word of caution which comes out of Washington, relating to the revolution revo-lution In Russia, causes tho Manchester Manches-ter Union to ponder over the possi-1 possi-1 bilitles in store, and declare: Let us not forget that there arc I nearly 400.000 nobles in Russia, men of great wealth for the most part owners of most of the land. The no-Ibility no-Ibility constitutes B KrPa, veBted in , terest of enormous power. That will submit quletlj to displacement -Inconceivable That it ahall be unable to gather supporters among the ignorant ignor-ant masses is not to be imagined. A counter-revolurton is on the cards, and a bitter, bloody struggle. All this may be avoided. If the arrm Bwlnge with the popular party the chieT weapon of autocracy is lost. But there are many armies, widely scattered. Bru-siloff Bru-siloff has declared himself for th- rei olution. but there are other generals to be heard from. It Is much too earl to assume that all the common pi q j pie or Russia and their great military l commanders will go one way And .there is always the menace of the ex-' ex-' tremist. Surely the world cannot have I forgotten the French revolution, not have the students of the DnslUh Com-,monwealth Com-,monwealth forgotten the "root and branch" Fifth Monarchy men who saw ( nothing less Mn h kingdom of God on earth as the outcome of their strug-;-! against absolutism. Russia has been long in preparing for today's Uprising, and in the years of preparation prepara-tion has been tried in the fires that heat passion to the point of blood lust. No such task as that which confronts con-fronts the Russian popular leaden today to-day was ever undertaken before. Tn mere bulk it is stupendous. Its complications com-plications defy enumeration. Its possibilities pos-sibilities stagger the imagination. But we believe that a large meas ure of success lies ahead of the revolutionists rev-olutionists We cannot believe that the clock is to be set back Ideas are arrayed against each other in this world war which Is rapidly engulfing even our own peaceful nation, and the idea of human freedom must triumph over that of slavery. The process may have to follow the coup in Russia, Rus-sia, but the world is moving ahead. Not to believe that would be to go mad. Not to belike that some compensation com-pensation will come to mankind in return re-turn for all the blood that has been shed in the last three years, would be to lose the last, lingering belief in the world of life. And what can r pay the world for its sacrifice but a larger measure of man worth as compared com-pared with class worth0 rn |
