DANISH STEAMER HALTEDBY GUNS Ship Attempts to Leave Rio de Janeiro Harbor Secretly With German Cargo. Rio de Janeiro. Brazil, Jan. 23. The Danish steamer Hammershuh was fired fir-ed on last night by the guns of the fort at Santa Cruz and halted while trying to put to sea socretly after receiving re-ceiving a quantity of provisions and according to report, a large quantity of explosives from the German ships anchored an-chored In tho harbor. The Hammershuh entered tho port at 10 o'clock last night and dropped anchor close to tho German ships. It took on a large number of cases and then attempted to leave the harbor. The movements of the ship were observed ob-served from the fort and It was signalled sig-nalled to stop. The signals wore ignored, ig-nored, until two cannon Bhota were tired when the Hammershuh halted and was boarded by the port police.
