Show MARINE KILLED IN NIGHT FIGHT Bandits and Cruiser Forces in Combat Over Establishing American Military Government. Washington, Jan. 22 A night fight between native bandits and American marines in the Dominican republic resulting re-sulting in tne death of one marine and the severe injury to another was reported today to the navy department depart-ment Captain Knapp, commanding the American cruiser forces, reported the fight occurred Saturday night in the vicinity of the Porvenier sugar plantation planta-tion near Macoris, the scene of two similar encounters recently, Private J. H. Olson of the Fiftieth compnns was killed and Corporal George Wilson Wil-son of the Fifty-second company was shot in the neck. Officials here assume that tho two companies were engaged in tho disarming dis-arming of the natives and establishing the government under the American military authority. The dispatch did not state what were the native losses. |
