Show oo mm TBKET CAUSES QUITE SSI In his fiery speech at the Democratic Demo-cratic open-air meeting last night, Dan B. Shields, candidate for attorney general, gen-eral, deolared that the Republicans have received word to cease their campaign for the national ticket and center their efforts on the state and county tickets. Asked today concerning this statement, state-ment, John V. Bluth, secretary at Republican Re-publican headquarters, said it was untrue, un-true, but that Republican voters who desire to vote for Woodrow Wilson are being instructed that they can vote for the president and at the same time vote for the Republican state and county candidates. At Democratic headquarters it was stated, with elation, that the Republicans Re-publicans have abandoned hope of carrying Utah for Hughes and Fairbanks Fair-banks and are now striving to save some of the state and county candidates candi-dates from the "coming landslide." "We have found out," said one of the Democratic officials, "that hundreds hun-dreds of voters leglstering experimentally experi-mentally at Republican headquarters 'scratched' Hughes and voted for Wilson." This, they say, is significant and will be repeated in earnest by wholesale at next Tuesday's election. The Republicans, of course, pooh-pooh pooh-pooh the Democratic conclusion and claim to be gaining adherents every day. |
