One of the advocates of the measure meas-ure said: "Ogden is the logical place for the location of one of these banks, for many reasons. It is the distributing point -for all the Intermountain country. coun-try. It is, and will be, the largest packing center of the western half of the United States. It Is the largest larg-est railroad center west of Chicago It is the Industrial and manufacturing center of Utah and Is the headquarters headquar-ters or the Forest Service department of the Fourth districts and is the headquarters for the entire purchasing purchas-ing department In the United States ot the torest department It is the center and distributing point for thirty-eight million acres of irrigated and dry farm land. Much of this land Is yet to be reclaimed and brought under cultivation The assistance of the government is needed more in the development de-velopment of this vast area than In any other like area in the United States. "For many years past there has been a scarcity of money in Ogden and vicinity for farm developing purposes, pur-poses, owning to the fact that largo sums of money have gone Into the development and extension of the street car and Interurban system, the sugar factories, the packing plant and many other Industrial plants. "If an unlimited supply of cheap money could be secured for the development de-velopment of this vast empire tributary tribu-tary to Ogden, It would double the population of Ogden and all the tributary trib-utary country within the next ten years and would bring millions of acres of fertile land, which Is now covered cov-ered with sagebrush, under cultivation and would make happy and prosperous prosper-ous homes for thousand of families." |
