Show SIMON BAMBERGER IS A CANDIDATE FOR GOVERNOR Simon Bamberger, former state senator sen-ator from Salt Lake county, yesterday announced his candidacy for the Democratic Dem-ocratic nomination for governor at the state convention, which will be held at Ogden on August 18. In his announcement Mr. Bamberger Bamber-ger sets forth his platform as follows: fol-lows: "I have spent forty-eight years of my life in Utah In various lines of business, assisting in tho development of the resources and transportation facilities of the west "What I have been able to make and accumulate in this commonwealth is expended and Invested here; all my Interests are in Utah and my past, present and future are bound up In her growth and prosperity. - Believes iln Prohibition. , "I believe In temperance as a business, busi-ness, social and moral principle, and regard the strict prohibition of the manufacture and sale of Intoxicants as an an economical necessity. "Therefore, I stand for statewide, nationwide, absolute prohibition, and consider it a question of too great importance to be juggled with for partisan effect. "I pledge myself, if elected, to do everything within my power to secure the enactment of a fair and practical law for the creation of a public utilities utili-ties commission. "I pledge myself to a plan for making mak-ing operative the Initiative and referendum, ref-erendum, provided for in the state constitution twenty years ago, and for the recall of officials who fail to carry out their pre-election promises. Approves Administration. "I pledge myself to legislation for improving the condition of working people and providing for them or tbeir families in the event of injuries or death in either public or private employment "Although born in a foreign land, I am an American, without equivocation equivoca-tion or mental reservation, In peace or In war, no matter with what country coun-try we may have disputes or difficulties. diffi-culties. "I am, and always have been, in full and hearty accord with, the present national administration on all questions of national or international importance and will support President Pres-ident Wilson to the extent of my ability abil-ity and influence. "I submit my claims for considera tion to the Democratic convention and hope that my friends an supporters support-ers are not confined, to any one race, nationality, creed or political party." Mr. Bamberger Is an old resident of Utah. As the builder and owner of tho Salt Lake & Ogdon electric road, as a business man Interested in Utah affairs and as an actlvo Democrat, Mr. Bamberger is well known throughout tho state. Except as a member of the board of education in Salt Lake City and a term as a Btate senator, Mr. Bamberger has never held any public offices. oo- |
