Show WOOLEN WORKERS GIVEN INCREASE Boston, Nov. 21. A 10 per cent wage increase In all the mills of the American Woolen company, which employs 35,000 hands in New England and New York state, was announced at the headquarters of the company here tonight. At the same time the Arlington mills at Lawrence, employing employ-ing 5000 hands, announced "a higher scale of Avages," . the amount of which was not specified. It was believed that the new scale would be similar simi-lar to that made public last night by the Cotton Manufacturers' association of New Bedford, granting their 33,000 employes at 10 per cent raise. All the increases in the pay of textile tex-tile operatives thus far announced are to be effective "December 4. It was estimated in textile circles that the grant of a 10 per cent raise In all New England mills would mean an addition of more than $10,000,000 a year to pay rolls. |
