Show oo ON THIS THANKSGIVING DAY. This Thanksgiving will bo an extraordinary extra-ordinary occasion in that, while much of the world is In deepest distress, the people of the United States as a whole, have no overcast skies and prosperity is everywhere. These conditions has caused the Federal Council of the Churches of Christ in America, to send out the following appeal to tho Christian people peo-ple of this country. The President of the United States, in his Thanksgiving proclamation, proc-lamation, has asked the American nnnnlp rn rpmomhpr vUVi lnvn sympathy and compassionate liberality, lib-erality, the peoples of Europe and Asia. The church deem it appropriate appro-priate to issue an accordant message mes-sage to the people, urging that, at the services on that day and on the previous or following Sunday, offerings be received out of our unusually abundant prosperity, to meet the appalling and increasing distress of our brothers and sis-tors sis-tors in measureless adversity. We believe that we could make no more acceptable expression of our thanks to Almighty God, the Father of all, for another year of national well-being. The suffering caused by the war is without precedent, and hence we feel that every spiritual persuasion should be brought to bear, and every practical opportu-nhy opportu-nhy presented whereby -our people peo-ple may offer up their sacrifices upon this altar and help our brothers to bear their crosses. Our people, while being thankful, have a duty to perform, and on Thanksgiving day they should resolve to do something to alleviate the suffering suf-fering in Europe. |
