Show I BERRY AT ODDS WITHER MAIER Maier Refuses to See Berry in Attempts to Bring About Reconciliation. Los Angeles, Nov. 21. Attempts to bring about a reconciliation between Henry Berry, San Francisco baseball magnate, and Ed Maier, Vernon club owner, have failed because Maier refused re-fused to see Berry. Darmody, who holds an option on the Vernon club, admitted here he had acted as a go-between, go-between, but added he "did not believe be-lieve the men would meet." Berry was frank in stating that he would I like to "talk things over" with Maier. "I am here on private business, but I I would like to have a little Interview ! with Maier while here," Berry says. I Maier was in the city early today, but could not be reached. His visit was brief anu he left Immediately for a week at his Santa Susanna ranch. The two magnates have not been frieqds for some time. Several times this year Berry has been quoted as saying that Maier would have to get out of the league when the season ended. It is believed the magnates who have been unfriendly to Maier have changed their ideas now that ho seems ready to quit baseball, and want him to remain. Darmody said today he had offered to tear up his option on the Vernon club if Maier desired to remain in the game. "I want to be the first to promote pro-mote harmony In the league if I can do so," said Darmody. |
