Show BIG GOBT ON THE 11 PACIFIC TO HIED ; Within the next few weeks, according accord-ing to current rumors in local rail-road rail-road circles, contracts for the ,paral-leling ,paral-leling of 15 miles of Union Pacific track from Emery to Wasatch, about oO miles east of Ogden, will be let hy the Union Pacific railroad. Work on the new track will begin as soon as possible after the construction contracts con-tracts are signed. The fulfilling of the contracts will necessitate an outlay of approximately $2,000,000 and the parallel track, it is confidently expected, will be ready for operation before the end of the present pres-ent year. The work will Include, it is said, the boring of two tunnels and the cutting down of the present 93-foot eastward grade of tho Union Pacific to 60 feet. This will make a ruling eastward grade of 60 feet between Ogden and Cheyenne, Wyoming, making mak-ing possible a reduction in running time and the operation of heavier trains. The construction work will mean the employment of several hundred common laborers, tunnel men, mechanics me-chanics and camp workers, with Ogden Og-den as the center of supply. oo |
