Show VICTIM OF ROBBER LURED INTO ALLEY. Salt Lake, Feb 3. J. C. Poder, a sheepherder, late last night lured William Wil-liam Sperry to the rear of a bulldins on State street, between Fifth and Sixth South streets, and stunned him by a terrific blow across the face with a bottle. He stooped over the prostrate form of Sperry and was going through his pockets when Detectives Frank Glenn and W. S. Brown came around the building from opposite sides and stopped stop-ped him at the point of guns. Sperry was taken to the police em- ergency hospital where a deep gash 1 across his face was attended. I Poder was booked on a charge of highway robbery and locked up. According to the officers, they noticed notic-ed Poder and Sperry walking north on State street. They stopped at an alley al-ley leading to the rear of a meat shop and Poder urged Sperry to walk to the rear with him. Suspecting that something was about to be done, the officers ran after the men. Poder Xelled Sperry with the bottle just as they arrived and was bending over him to rob when arrested. Poder is known to tho police. He drives sheep and comes to Salt Lake at intervals. His visits are usually completed in the city jail. Sperry is a laborer. He lives at the Lincoln house on East First South street. |
