Show GAMBLERS CAUGHT IN A RAID ARE FINED BY BARKER The police court session this morn ing was unusually long, there being 26 alleged offenders brought before the judfge, in addition to Frank Phil-brook, Phil-brook, the accused murderer of Pat Qulgley, the Saline miner. Of first Importance among the minor min-or cases Tvas that of the City vb, Flan Sam, Wong Kee, H. Yama, Sam Geo, F. Ouson, F. Yamada, F. 'E. Foe, Leon Jlng, Charley Sing, Frank Kasal, K. Shnma and To Getwoo, Chinese and Japanese who were arrested ar-rested In a raid by police o'fflcers on a gambling house on Lincoln avenue, between Twenty-fourth and Twenty-fifth Twenty-fifth street, on the night of January 11th. They were charged with gambling gam-bling and, through Charles, R. Holl-ihgsworth, Holl-ihgsworth, their attorney, entered pleaB of guilty. On recommendation of the city attorney, tho twelve Orientals Ori-entals were lined $20 each, which was paid. In the case of the City vs. Cleo Wilson, Wil-son, white, and L. C. Bruce, colored, the defendants changed their former pleas of not guilty to guilty, the charge being that of vagrancy. The woman expressed a desire to return to her home in Salt (Lake Oity and was given the opportunity, on a 90-day 90-day suspended sentence. Bruce was sentenced to serve fifteen days in jail. "Bud" Brown, colored, who had his case taken under advisement yesterday, yes-terday, was sentenced to serve 20 days in jail or to pay a $20 fine. Robert O'Dell and Robert Kelly pleaded guilty to charges of mendicancy mendi-cancy and were each given a five-day jail sentence. John Emmett, who added the offense of disturbing the peace to that of begging, was ordered held in jail for a period of ten days. Pat Smith and John Doe, plain drunks, received suspended sentences. George King pleaded guilty to a charge of petit larceny and, ibeing an old offender, was sentenced to serve 15 days in jail, with Thomas Clarey, was charged with stealing a handbag hand-bag valued at $15 from H. a Hicken-looper. Hicken-looper. Clarey entered a plea of not guilty and had his trial set for tomorrow morning. |
