Show CONSOLIDATION OF TWO CITY JOBS PROPOSED Before making appointments to office, of-fice, tho new city board of commissioners commis-sioners fixed salaries for different positions, po-sitions, among them being that of city engineer and his assistant. The engineer's salary was placed at $1800 and the assistant was to receive $1200 a year. At the meeting of the board last night, however, Commissioner Commis-sioner Chris Flygare presented an ordinance abolishing tho position of assistant engineer and providing a salary of $2400 a year for tho engineer, engi-neer, tho change suggesting a reduction reduc-tion of $600 a year in the engineering department. The other members of the board were favorable to the change, but, as a matter of form, as suggested by Mayor A. R. Heywood, the ordinance was referred to Commissioner Com-missioner Flygare for further consideration. consid-eration. Department claims amounting to $328.77 were allowed and the auditor directed to draw warrants for the several amounts. On the recommendation of Mayor A. R. Heywood, superintendent of the department of public safety, H. H. Cordon and Leonard De Long were appointed ap-pointed special officers without pay. On the recommendation of Commissioner Commis-sioner Chris Flygare, the board decided de-cided to join with Weber county in the purchase of a scarifier for Joint road improvement. The apparatus will cost in the neighborhod of $500. T he bond of Thomas Lundy, city oil inspector, in the sum of $1000, was approved and placed on file. The petition of J. D. Smith for a news stand on Twenty-fourth street was granted. The exact location of the stand will bo fixed by the superintendent super-intendent of streets. The invitation of the Weber county coun-ty farm bureau to the city board of commissioners to attend the farmers' round up at Logan on dairy day was accepted and it was decided that Commissioner M. L. Jones should go as a -representative of the board. Tarm bureau members are going in a body, as it is the purpose of the organization or-ganization to make dairying one of the important features of its efforts to advance farm interests. Dairy day will be February 2. |
