The firsl big ,rt of a profit-sharing scheme, whereby the employes of a companv participate in the prosperity of the concern lias been made by the Ford Motor company of Detroit. Michigan, with what results is shown by the following report which we quote from a circular sent out by the automobile makers- "A year ago Ford Motor company began its profit-sharing scheme. Today To-day every employe is depositing in banks or investing in horned ami lots, an average of 7fi a month. These workmen are buying home? on contract, valued at nearly $5,000. 000, on which they have paid nearly $1 20H.000 Gain per man in bank deposits de-posits is 130 1-2 per cent; in life insurance in-surance 86 per cent, in homes owned RT 1-2 per cent Between 1000 and 1100 foreign employes arc learning English at the Ford plant, taught by other Ford employes, who have caught the spirit of the co-operative movement and are doing the teaching teach-ing on their own time, without intrinsic in-trinsic reward." The success thus attained by the profit-sharing plan of the Ford Motor company may lead other institutions doing a large business to follow the example. |
