Show NOTED COLONEL 10 BE BURIED i "Poet of Washington" and Alleged Al-leged Author of "Love and Laughter" Dies in National Na-tional Capital. Washington, Jan. 19. Funeral arrangements ar-rangements were being made here for Colonel John A. Joyce, known throughout the country by his poems and other writings. He died hero yesterday aged 72 years. Colonel Joyce had lived here for half a century and won the name of "Poet of Washington." and almost every on-- was familiar with his long flowing white locks. He had published pub-lished more than a dozen books, most-' ly poems and biographies. Colonel Jocrt laid claim to the au-! thorshlp of the verses "Love and Laughter,' known throughout ihe English speaking world by its first line "Laugh and the world laughs with you. weep and you weep alone ' but his claim has been disputed and ! the controversy at one tune attracted I wide attention |
