Show 25 CENTS OFFERED FOR UTAH WOOL Salt Lake, Feb. 10. At the last convention of the Utah Woolgfowera' association, held in this city several weeks ago, President tUor;:' Austlu declared that he expected to sell his wool this year for better than 25 cents a pound. Some of those present pres-ent thought the prediction of President Presi-dent Austin, that wool would reach a Quarter of a dollar a pound, rather an unwarranted bit of optimism. In the past several days, C B St w art. secretary of the Utah Woolgrow-ers" Woolgrow-ers" association, has received word of several offers of 25 cents a pound made to Utah sheepmen for their spring clip In none of the instances reported to him. according to Mr Stewart, did the wool buyers succeed In getting contracts. At the time of tho announcement that he expected to get better than 25 cents for his wool this year, Pros-dent Pros-dent Austin declared that he based his opinion that the price would go above that figure on the condition of the world market Mr. Austin said that he was convinced that thero was already a scarcity of wool that would become more acute because of the demands for woolen goods for thu warring armies of Europe. He pointed point-ed out that there would be no falling off in the demand for wool for the usual uses and said that ihe war demand de-mand was an increased demand Mr. Stewart said yesterday that tho fact that bids of 25 cents by the wool buyers for Utah wool had failed to gel them contracts convinced him that tho sheepmen of the state are Hwake to the possibility of higher prices yet and that they are determined deter-mined to hold for the best possible rate. |
