H, MPP PRINCIPAL SPEAKER IT Ml The banquet and smoker held at Lay ton last night, to celebrate the selection of that town as a site for the Knight-Ellison sugar factorj, which is to be moved there from Canada, proved a brilliant success. It was given by the Layton Commercial club with E. M, Whitesldes as toast-master toast-master There were more than 150 persons present and the principal address ad-dress of the evening was made by Judge H. H Rolapp of Ogden, on the subject of "What the sugar beet has done for Utah.'' This subject had been assigned to Governor William Spry, but the governor as unable to be present owing to legislative duties In Salt Lake. The subject was ablv handled by the Ogden man, though taken up at short notice. Other addresses were made as follows: fol-lows: "The Layton Sugar Factory." J William Knight of Provo; "That Layton Commercial Cluh." President T. A. Phillips; "Davis County As an Industrial Unit." Charles R Mabey; "Davis County from an Industrial Standpoint." Henry H Blood; "Davis "Da-vis County a Unit Educationally." Leo J. Muir; "County Roads." Com missloner Cook; "Irrigation," E. P. Ellison, and "Layton. a Residence Center. " Lawrence E. Ellison Several character readings were given during the evening by Nellie Clark of Farmlngton and Robert Blr-kin Blr-kin sang several solos The work of both was much appreciated by all present. on |
