Show II I I OUR CHIROPRACTIC NEWS DISSEMINATOR (or) THE PAID-SPACE, FREE-NEWS AGENT 1 I CHIROPRACTIC-Its Trials and Tribulations I I Jesus WAS a "law breaker." I J He broke regulations of the Hebrews and Romans I for which he was treated with contempt and ridicule ; was I spat upon and crucified ; legally presecuted and persecuted. I V HUMAN NATURE repeats itself in 1915. ! ALLOPATHY is one theory nd form of practice of I I t medicine. I PREVIOUS to Allopathy there was no DIFFERENT I I theory or form. I There were no "medical practice acts" the dear I I people' needed none the profession regulated itself. I HOMEOPATHY was the FIRST RADICAL I I CHANGE in theory and practice it was dubbed "irregu- I ; lar" by the "regulars." I Allopaths fought homeopaths in theories, schools, at I the bedside; in politics, courts and finally in legislatures. I ' CHRISTIAN SCIENCE came if that theory and I 1 1 1 practice did no good, it did no harm. They used no poison- I j ous drugs nor sharpened knives. They gave nothing and I I took nothing away from human bodies. I 1 THEY PRAYED IT WAS RELIGION the Con- I 1 stitution of the United States forbids State Legislatures or I Courts from interfering. The majority of states respected I that Constitution, others EXEMPTED them to show their I Constitutional respect; others deliberately rode roughshod I j over it I I OSTEOPATHY came. When pure, only the hands I j were used to stimulate or inhibit the blood flow. It did I ! much good and brought success where otherwise there was I I failure. 11 This was the THIRD intruder to the regular" ; second I j to the "irregular," but the Christian Scientist didn't care I j 1 how many there were, so long as they left them alone, be- I j I lieving that the unfittest WILL go and only good CAN I j; I survive. I 1 I Each interloper was dealt with, by its predecessors, I I in the following manner: I j I 1st. ETHICAL, DIGNIFIED, SILENT CON- I j I TEMPT. Amongst themselves, they said: "If there was I ! I any good in it, we would have discovered it hundreds of I j years ago" forgetting that Caesar did not ride to Rome in I j a Velie, nor turn on the arc lights when he arrived. I j 2d. RIDICULE. "Quacks, fakers, grafters, after- I j I your-money," etc. If I 3d. Continuing to grow in scientific perf ectness and 1 I public approval, in spite of contempt and ridicule. "We I J have known of this ALL the time, but didn't care to use it." I j I 4th. LEGAL PROSECUTION AND PERSECU- II I TION. Failing to do aught but fan sympathy (which made 11 friends) they I j I 5th. Have (or are trying) LEGAL ENGULFMENT. I I In ALL states Homeopathy has lost its individual legal I I ! standing in favor of Allopathy ; in some states Osteopathy I 1 1 has been swallowed by the "regulars" AND "irregulars," I t i but in others 1 6th. OSTEOPATHY HAS ITS OWN STATUTES 1 1 AND PROFESSIONAL STANDING. 1 CHIROPRACTIC. WHAT IS IT? I I Chiropractic was Discovered by D. D. Palmer (now I J I . deceased) in September, 1895. It has since been Developed ' 4 1 by ms only son B. J. Palmer. f: i I The various schools of Chiropractic will graduate fe'j lii over 700 students in 1915 and have clinics of over 3,000 P,vi I , patients daily and a record of over 14,000 "incurable" i :i I cases in the last five years. r.l There are some fifteen Chiropractic schools and col- leges variously distributed throughout the United States. fc" -3 I There are over 6,000 practicing Chiropractors in the I U. S., no state being exempt from its number. H ELBERT HUBBARD SAYS: "It is the science of p -tl t common sense." It teaches that THE BRAIN is THE p- g I SOURCE of all body power; it is conveyed through the K'''J i spinal cord and spinal nerves which end in every tissue p I and organ of the body and there expresses HEALTH. J .1 That, the spinal cord and nerves ARE SOFT structures I and ARE SURROUNDED entirely by bones which ARE 1 I HARD. That, these bones ARE MOVABLE within cer- I j! tain degrees. That, when they move BEYOND THAT, vj I by accidents, the HARD bones squeezes the SOFT nerve, I i I decreases its size, cuts off the flow of "life" from the brain U c I to organ. That, the degree of pressure registers THE B F. J. FREENOR, D. C. Ogden, Utah. LACK of "brain current" that CAN'T GET TO the tissue, hence makes any ope of a hundred thousand diseases which the various "pathies" are in much doubt about in diagnosing diagnos-ing and treating. THE VITAL FACTOR OF CHIROPRACTIC IS THE "ADJUSTMENT" of this bone on nerve pressure. Eighty-five per cent of the sick get well when this is done. RADICAL? TO BE SURE! So was Columbus. ACCEPTED? NO. BITTERLY OPFOSED. So was Marconi. BY WHOM? The "regular," "irregular" AND the Osteopath, who has only TOO soon forgotten that HE was prosecuted, persecuted and plead for mercy from the Legislatures. Legis-latures. Shame be upon them! What did the Chiropractors go through? 1st. We were ALSO treated with the same cold contempt. 2d We met their ETHICAL ridicule stoically. 3d. Then came the Osteopath, who said we "stole his thunder." What we did, "A. T. Still taught twenty years ago, ' etc. 4th. We have waded for nineteen years through a vast number of repeated legal prosecutions (persecutions), combatting the medical and osteopathic specially constructed con-structed statutes. Upon what "charge"? From the "regular" and "irregular" "ir-regular" "practicing medicine and surgery, without a license FOR A FEE." Many Christian Scientists stand convicted of that charge. From the Osteopath "practicing "practic-ing Osteopathy, without a license, FOR A FEE." You say, "IMPOSSIBLE! PREPOSTEROUS! The Chiropractor does NOT believe in, advise nor give drugs, the knife or osteopathy!" There are TWO DEFINITIONS of "what constitutes the practice of medicine": A. A SCIENTIFIC ONE, such as M. D.'s are taught in college, believe in the practice FOR PAY. B. A LEGAL ONE, such as doctors have made by legislatures, prosecute under TO CUT DOWN COMPETITION. COMPETI-TION. Read this DEFINING CLAUSE, passed by a nearby Legislature a short time ago, and see WHAT YOU COULD DO, FOR A FEE, and not be convicted. "DEFINITION OF ACT: Any person who (a) by advertisment, or any notice, sign or other indication, or by any statement, printed, written or oral, in public or in private, pri-vate, made, done or procured by himself, or any other, at his request, for him, claims, announces, makes known, or pretends, his ability or willingness to diagnosticate or prognosticate prog-nosticate any human diseases, ills, deformities, defects, wounds or injuries; .(b) or who so advertises, or makes known, or claims, his ability and willingness to prescribe or administer any drug, medicine, treatment, method of practice, or performs any operation, or manipulation, or apply any apparatus, or appliance, for cure, amelioration, correction, reduction or modification of any human disease, ills, deformity, defect, wound or injury, FOR HIRE, FEE, j , COMPENSATION OR REWARD, PROMISED, OFFERED, OF-FERED, EXPECTED, RECEIVED OR ACCEPTED, DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY; (c) or who within this state diagnosticates or prognosticates any human disease, j ills, deformities, defects, wounds or injuries, FOR HIRE, FEE, REWARD, OR COMPENSATION PROMISED, OFFERED, EXPECTED, RECEIVED or ACCEPTED, DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY; (d) or who within this state prescribes or administers any drug, medicine, or treatment, treat-ment, method of practice, or performs any operation, or manipulation, or applies any apparatus or appliance for the cure, allegation, amelioration, correction, reduction, or modification, of any disease, ill, deformity, defect, wound or injury, FOR HIRE, FEE, COMPENSATION, OR REWARD, RE-WARD, PROMISED, OFFERED, EXPECTED, RECEIVED RE-CEIVED OR ACCEPTED, DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY; INDIRECT-LY; (e) or who acts as the agent of any person, firm or corporation in the practice of medicine as hereinbefore set forth; (f) except it be in the advertisement or practice of dentistry, midwifery, or pharmacy, or in the usual business busi-ness of opticians, or of vendors of medical or surgical instruments, in-struments, apparatus and appliances, IS CONSIDERED y, AS PRACTICING MEDICINE AND SURGERY WITHIN WITH-IN THE MEANING OF THIS ACT." 4 WHAT'S THE RESULT OF THESE COURT PROCEEDINGS? PRO-CEEDINGS? Eighty per cent acquittals, hung juries, withdrawals, with-drawals, etc. HOW CAN WE WIN WHEN THE "LAW'S DEAD A'GIN US"? Juries REFUSE to concede that "practicing medicine and surgery" as a SCIENTIFIC proposition, goes COMPETITIVELY as far as political physicians would have it, irrespective of the health or welfare of "the dear people." They REFUSE to sanction (BY THEIR VERDICTS) VER-DICTS) STATE MEDICINE any more than they would a STATE RELIGION. They FURTHER REFUSE to let private interests use public tax to vent private spleen j against a local competitor, who is admittedly doing no harm. TIME AFTER TIME they have arrested THE SAME man persecution who may be continuously aquitted, or convicted at first, only to later change to repeated "NOT GUILTY." WHY? Juries are composed of men (and women) who are human, irrespective of the political accomplish-) accomplish-) ments of cliquey physicians; they saw the Chiropractor added to the health, wealth and happiness of society to convict him (or her) of DOING GOOD was what was "handed" Christ. A word to Prosecutors: Have we stepped back 1,800 years, or PROFITED by the noble r example of the Christ? Chiropractic is still here, nineteen years later. We j have grown with wonderous strides. We now face two issues: I A. Legal Engulfment BY the "regulars," "irregulars" "irregu-lars" AND osteopaths, or B. Legal Regulation by and for ourselves. Neither can be done without the taxpayers and voters' endorsement endorse-ment THE GRADUATED CHIROPRACTORS ARE GOING TO ASK OUR LEGISLATURE, THIS WINTER, TO GIVE THEM A FAIR AND EQUITABLE EQUIT-ABLE STATUTE, ONE WHERE THEY WILL GOVERN THEMSELVES (AS OPPOSED TO A BOARD OF ONE CHURCH CONTROLLING ITS OPPOSITE), ONE THAT WILL BE FAIR TO ALL CHIROPRACTORS AND THOSE PRINCIPLES PRIN-CIPLES AND INTERESTS WHICH THEY MAIN- TAIN ARE TRUE. Our predecessors have called us "law breakers" ; they have prosecuted us BECAUSE WE HAD NO STATUTE. They will HELP us PROVIDED WE BE ENGULFED. They will FIGHT us providing we ask to regulate ourselves a privilege which THEY possess. Help the Chiropractor be a statute-abiding citizen. 1 J Eg Sp: If Boost For CHIROPRACTIC Legislation I F. J.
