Show CANADIAN TROOPS IN THE TRENCHES Princess Patricia's Regiment Nov in France Scottish Contingent to Follow Soon. (Correspondence of The Associated Press.) London Dec. 25. Part of the Canadian Cana-dian contingent, the members of which have been rather restless under un-der their course of training on Salisbury Salis-bury plain, has now been given a chance to show their fighting abilities In the trenches in northern France. Princess Patricia's regiment, largely large-ly composed of men who have seen previous service, entrained yesterday for Southampton, where they em-1 marked for a French port. They are to be followed by the Scottish regi ments of the contingent and bv other units, some of vhlch have been attached at-tached to British regiments It was hoped w.'nen the contingent arrived that the ranadlans would form an army of their own, but being composed as it is of men who have had experience in the arts of warfare and raw recruits, this was found impracticable im-practicable unless the contingent was to remain in England for an indefinite time. Now they are being sent out as they become eligible under the direction of experienced British officers and will take their places in the line with British regiments of similar character. |
