Show ' EAST CONTINUES Petrograd, Aug. 9, via London, Aug. 10, 2.10 a. m. -The war office tonight made public the following ofiiclal communication: South of the Dvina Sunday our troops pressed the enemy in the direction di-rection of Frederikstad (southeast of Riga) and in the sector above Schoen-berg Schoen-berg (south of Frederikstad). In the district northeast of Vilkomer (northeast (north-east of Kovno) the German advance guards wero dislodged, sustaining heavy losses in some of tho villages Sunday night tho enemy renewed his attacks on the fortifications of Kovno. Our positions during the course o? the day underwent an intense in-tense artillery bombardment by the enemy and his attacks against our advanced ad-vanced positions were of an extremely desperate character. According to the latest reports received, the German, Ger-man, assault against the western front of Kovno last night was everywhere repulsed with enormous losses to them. Our artillery responded energetically ener-getically to tho enemy's fire. Near Ossowetz and in the region of Jcdwabno there haB been violent flrlncr. On the left bank of the Narew Sunday Sun-day there was isolated fighting, particularly par-ticularly in the direction of Lomza, the section north of Lomza and the Ostro road. In the other regions and on the right bank of the middle Vistula there have been no important actions. On the roads to Vladova, as well as on the Bug, the Zlqta Lipa and Dniester rivers, the situation is unchanged. un-changed. Sunday a German tleet, consisting of nine battleships, twelve cruisers and a large number of torpedo-boat destroyers, made persistent attacks at the entrance of the Gulf of Riga, but everywhere were repulsed.
