Show oo GERMAN CATHOLICS MEET AT ST. PAUL St. Paul, Aug. 9. Delegates to the sixteenth annual convention of German Ger-man Federation of Catholic societies, which began a Jour-day session here today, settled down to the transaction of business today, after services at the cathedral. President Joseph Frey of New York led tho discussions at the business busi-ness meeting and J. Q. Juenemann, St. Paul, national secretary, submitted submit-ted his report Loyal to U. S. Archbishop John Bonanzo of Rome, papal delegate to the United States, brought greetings to the convention from Pope Benedict. Archbishop Ireland Ire-land of St. Paul praised the loyalty of the German-American Catholics to the Stars and Stripes. "We love America, we love its flag," he continued, "but greater than lall we love the freedom of tho Star Spangled Span-gled Banner, which puts the power of monarchy In the hands of every citizen citi-zen at least once a year when he goes to the polls. We want nothing more than freedom; we ask no special privileges." |
