Show BOMBS TESTED BY ARMY AVIATORS, Washington. April 5. As a result of recent tests at the army aviation station sta-tion at San Diego, Cal , bombs, suitable suit-able for use with aeroplanes, have demonstrated their practicability as to safely aud certainty of action. Some of the bombs successful ly demonstrated were pear shaped while others were of an elongnted cylindrical cylindric-al type. The weight of the former type was 15 pounds, while the new type weighed 50 and 100 pounds each. Details of the tests will not be disclosed, dis-closed, hut It is understood the pear-shaped pear-shaped bombs were somewhat unstable unsta-ble in flight with corresponding inaccuracy inac-curacy in hitting the mark. Tho flight of the elongated type, however, was said to have been more accurate, the bombs striking within 20 or 30 feet of the desired mark from an al tltudc of L'OOU feet. The uae of both types in an offensive way has yet to be determined. |
