Show GREAT WESTERN JOBBING FRAUDS Three Defendants Plead Guilty in St Louis Federal District Dis-trict Court. BANKRUPTCY TRICK Merchandise Sold on Credit to One of Chain of Stores Shifted to Another. St. Louis, Feb. 1. Pleas of guilty were entered in the federal district court here today by three defendants in the so-called Great Western Jobbing Job-bing frauds. The case involved alleged al-leged fraudulent mercantile transactions transac-tions amounting to a million dollars. It waB charged that merchandise sold on credit to one of a chain of stores, would be shifted to another store, and that then the first store would avoid payment by going into bankruptcy. Those pleading guilty today were Charles L Greenfield, Julius Stein-hardt Stein-hardt and Meyer Rotman. Greenfield, it was understood has agreed to testify for the prosecution After the pleas of guilty had been entered, en-tered, seven other defendants went to trial jointly. They were Samuel Brown. Harry A. Cohan, Alfred Gold berg, Samuel Bernstein, Jacob Lip-man, Lip-man, Jacob L. Lobowitz. Maurice Garfinkel will be tried separately. |
