Show TRAIN WRECKER AND ENGINEER N IS KILLED I a disastrous wreck occurred early this morning east of Rock Springs. Wyo.. on the lTnion Pacific. Ah a reHult passenger train No. !! and freight train No. 25G were piled up and Engineer Hagan oi the passenger passen-ger train wag kilied. News of the wreck secured by local Union Pacific officials is somewhat meager and. other than Engineer 1 lagan, it is not known whether anyone was killed or injured Ha gan is thought to be a resident of Rawlins The double wroek was caused by the breaking of a side roil n tin freight engine, which dropped under the wheels and derailed it As thw locomotive toppled, several of tie cars went over with it, falling across the double track. The freight train was eastbonnd and the derailment occurred just as No lf. westbound, was about to pass. Before Be-fore the passenger could be flagged it crashed into the wreckage head on. The fact that No. 19 carried a number num-ber of mall cars is said to have undoubtedly un-doubtedly saved the passengers from death or injury and as far as could he learned the mall clerks also escaped. No. 19 Is now scheduled to reach the city about 7 30 p. m ur IL' hours late; No. 1 Is expected to get in shortly before that hour and Nos. 7. 9 and '7 are correspondingly delayed A stub special was made up at Og den to take the place of westbound I No. 19 this morning and departed at 10:.10 o'clock, with two cars of mall in addition to the passenger equip- i ment. |
