Show SPECIAL PROGRAM AT LEWIS SCHOOL The South Junior High, or Lewis School, presented an excellent program pro-gram yesterday afternoon to a crowded crowd-ed house Every number was heartily applauded and thoroughly enjoyed by the parents and friends of the pupils of the school. The "Salute to our Country's flag wa6 given with all the ardor and animation of which "Young America " can boast. This was followed follow-ed by the singing of the beautiful "Star Spangled Banner"' by the school and audience, the latter being request ed by Principal Wintle when he announced an-nounced the second number. No. ?, was an essay composed and delivered by Miss Elizabeth Seppich. entiled "Industrial Education." who handled the subject In a very able manner and her fellow students made no mistake In selecting this young lady to represent the Lewis' in the oratorical contest. No. 4, Miss Wooley. told how "The La Rue Stakes Were Ixisf In a realistic realis-tic and highly entertaining manner. No 5, Miss Marion Carter's coinpo sition on "International Peace." was well chosen and held the hearers to the last. No. 6 a piano solo bj Miss Dorothy Woods was very fine. No. 7, a recitation by William Ko1-dewyn. Ko1-dewyn. entitled "Lasea." was well delivered de-livered No 8, an Irish jig by four little m's-ses m's-ses wag very gracefully executed and called forth hearty applause. No. 9, "Lincoln's Gettysburg Address," Ad-dress," was given in a perfectly loud and clear voice with much feeilup and emphasis. This address will never grow old nor become tiresome coming com-ing as it did from one of the grandest men the world has ever produced. "Americanisms," an oration by Will Moyes, was delivered In a perfectly clear and distinct voice and merited all the applause given A chorus by "1-D" and "2 D" girls displayed remarkable talent in chorus work without piano accompanist. This closed the exercises the parents and visitors were invited to visit the art rooms where the excellent work of the children was displayed. Especially good were the drawings from life In the needle work, too, one cannot help marveling at the wonderful handiwork of the grades The boys' exhibition Is remarkable, so many useful articles being on display. Those who did not avail themselves of the opportunity to visit the wbrk oi this school have missed a treat. The principal invites the' public to visit his school at any time and parents will do well to pay a visit to the children child-ren on some school day and see the youngBters at their work. It also encourages en-courages principal and teachers alike to know the parents are interested enough to take "a half-day off and visit their room3. oo |
