Tan. 16 Speakinc at the annual mid-winter dinner of the New York Creditmen's association yesterday yester-day Charles S Hamlin, assistant secretary sec-retary of the Treasurv said President Wilson was serving the interests of the entire nation and that the pledges made by the Democratic party would all be redeemed. Of the laws already carried into ef feet, Mr. Hamlin said the Underwood Tariff Law had not flooded the country coun-try with foreign imports as had been predicted and that the revenues of the country from customs were keeping keep-ing up well The reduced tariff, he said, had al-j al-j ready shown the tendency to make manufacture in the United States more efficient and in a few years would make the cost of production in the United States the lowest anywhere any-where Of the recently enacted currency cur-rency bill, the secretary said business could expect much, because one of the objects of the law wag to better the credit of the small merchant and manufacturer. |
