Show THEATERS AT THE ORPHEUM. With the highest class opening act that has yet been presented, and two other acts that bid for headline honors, hon-ors, a splendid vaudeville program was given at the Orpheum yesterday afternoon and last night. The three feature acts. Alisky s Greater Hawaii ans, Alexander Kamlnsky, vloiin vir tuoso, and the Charles group of Juggling Jug-gling acrobats, will be remembered for some time, as their equals in their particular lines of entertainment are rarely seen. Archer and Ingersol, a dancing duo, and Sam Hood, a blackface comedian, also took well with yesterday s audiences. Alisk a Greater Hawailans, in presenting pre-senting "A Night in Hawaii' have a stage setting that is beautiful. When the curtain rises, two natives, a man and a woman, are seen in the court yard of an Hawaiian home. The man is seated, playing a guitar, which is across his knees. The woman is reclining re-clining on the grass near him, listen ing. In the background is a lagoon with the mountains and the volcano, "Kilauea." in the distance. When the man finishes playing the first number. Hawaiian troubadours aro heard singing native songs to the accompaniment of native stringed in struments. The troubadours walk Into the court yard and until the close of the act a program of harmonic har-monic singing and instrumental music mu-sic Is given that proves rarely charm ing The cast includes a male quartette singers and instrumentalists a I guitar soloist and a native dancer. Several solos are sung during the progress of the act, the work of the tenor being exceptionally fine An exhibition of guitar playing that proved the player remarkably proficient profi-cient was also given. The native dance and the realistic effect of a, burning volcano which closed the act, was encored seven or eight times. Alexander Kamlnsky, the Russian violinist, presented a program that was all art His part included som of the most difficult classical compo sitions extant and every one of them was keenly appreciated. It is not an exaggeration to say that Karalns-ky's Karalns-ky's superior ha6 not been beard on a local stage, his tone being true and of exquisite quality and, of technique, he is a past master. His accompaniments accom-paniments are played by Mile Ka-ininsky. Ka-ininsky. a little miss, who handles the difficult music in a manner that proved her a mistress of the piano. The Charles group of juggling aero bats show themselves possessed or rare dexterity and strength. Their act is eutlrelj new and they d;d some equillbrlstic stunts that were enthusiastically enthu-siastically received. Archer and Ingersol present a song ind dance sketch. The graceful dancing danc-ing of Miss Ingersol was encored scv-eral scv-eral times. Sam Hood holds up the comedy of the bill fairly well with a monologue .vhich included some cleverly written parodies rn |
