Show CHIEF JOHNSON JOINS FEDERALS Cincinnati, O., April 21. George "Chief" Johnson, the Winnebago Indian In-dian pitcher of the Cincinnati National Nation-al league team, last night signed a contract with the Kansas City Federal Fed-eral league team and left for St! Louis to join it What salary was promised prom-ised Johnson was unknown. Johnson John-son was accompanied by President C. C. Madison of the Kansas City club. ,The action of Johnson was prompted by a dispute with Manager Herzog who fined the pitcher $lj)0 last Friday Fri-day for not roporting in condition. Madison also endeavored to sign I Armando Marsans. the Cuban outfielder, out-fielder, offering him $21,000 for three years, 7000 of it to be paid in cash at once, but Marsans refused. It was also reported that Madison tried to get Pitcher Benton, but was unsuccessful. unsuc-cessful. President Horrmann. of the local club, who is also president of the National Na-tional commission, said tonight that he would seek an injunction tomorrow tomor-row to prevent Johnson from playing with the Kansas City club. Johnson signed up this year under the revised MM contract which has not yet been tested in court. I |
