Show "SHIN PLASTER" IS BEING ADVOCATED New York, Nov 14. Revival of the "shin plaster" and the coinage of 2 1-2 cent, 3 cent and 1 1-2 cent pieces as means toward reducing the high cost of living are advocated in resolutions adopted tonight at a Cooper Union meeting under the auspices aus-pices of the People's Institute The resolutions, presented by Frederick C. Howo. director of the institute urge that the facilities now extended by the parcel post be widened as rapidly as possible and that in this connection 25 cent and 50 cent bills be issued for the payment of small accounts through the mall now paid by stamps or money orders The Issue Is-sue of the new odd-amount denominations denom-inations of coin is urged as likely to reduce materially the cost of many articles. "As it is now," the resolutions say, "the five and ten cent pieces aro the lowest denominations of value in a large number of transactions, notably not-ably In Btreet railway fares, for telephone tele-phone messages, for five and ten cent stores, as well as by dealers generally general-ly throughout the country As we believe that the issues of coins of smaller denominations ' would automatically auto-matically tend to the cheapening of manj of these services as well as to the Introduction of a new measure of value to thousands of articles tiow artificially ar-tificially fixed by the coins in circulation cir-culation " Copies of the resolution were ordered or-dered sent to the president of the United States, the secretary of the treasury and all United States senators sena-tors and representatives. no- |
