Show AMATEURS MAY LOSE CONTROL New York. N. Y . Jan. 24 As a result of the boxing bouts which were held at the Boys' club during the amateur wrestling tournament last Tuesday night, the Amateur Athletic union may lose its control over ama teur boxing in this state. Charles Harvey, secretary of the stale boxing commission, has an nounced that the A. A. U. officials who were present at the tournament would be called before the commie sion next Thursday to explain why they permitted professional boxers to compete without a sanction. If tht-ir explanation is deemed unsatisfactory Mr. Harvey ald the commission would lake over control of amateur as well as professional bouts. James E. Sullivan, secretary of the A. A. U, admitted last night that the union's officials had made a serious mistake in not protesting against the professional bouts. "It s one of those mistakes that only occur once in a long time. I'm orry it happened and I know it will never happen again." |
