Show I BASEBALL WAR A GOOD THING 'Extra Interest Would Be Add-ed Add-ed to Peaceful Situation in League Circles. SCHEME CAN SUCCEED a Factor Not to Be Scorned Bv Older Associations. BY MONTY New York. Jan 24 Leaving out of consideration all thoughts of the Federal leagues death, the fact that a sure enough baseball war would add extra interest to a situation that has been peaceful for the last ten years. It is learned now that the Federal s plans, as they stood when the year 1914 was ushered in, practically prac-tically duplicated those ot the American Amer-ican league when it entered the scene. The idea was to expand in quality and quantity annually unill top caliber was reached. With proper prop-er financial backing and the correct working out of details, it is almost certain that this scheme can succeed suc-ceed now just as before, despite the greater scope of the established or der existing at present With a mod erate measure of success attending the efforts of the outlaws, in such a I movement there would be man twists and turns worth watching j It is almost remarkable, how the original plans of the Federal league -enthusiasts parallel the career of the American league When Ban Johnson. Charley Somers, Charlie Comiskey, John Kilfoyl and others launched the American league In 1500, the club roster was: Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit, Buffalo. Indianapolis, Indianap-olis, Kansas City, Milwaukee and ' Minneapolis. Only four or these I clubs were in line the following year Chicago, Cleveland. Detroit and I Milwaukee. Four new cities were taken in Boston, Philadelphia. Washington and Baltimore. The next season, 1902, St. Louis was in-aded in-aded and Milwaukee dropped. Baltimore Bal-timore fell by the wayside then and the new organization broke into New York In 1903. Start In Middle West Now look at the Federals. They started last year in the same general territory where the American league j had its birth, the Middle West, but with a six club circuit. The cities were: Chicago, St. Louis. Indianapolis, Indianap-olis, Kansas City, Cleveland and Pittsburgh After new capital had been influenced, it was decided to have eight clubs this year, dropping Cleveland and adding on Baltimore. Buffalo and Toronto. Then the scheme for next year was to cut off the two poorest players of the circuit and move the clubs to Washington and New York. With this idea followed fol-lowed out. the probable 1915 makeup would be : Chicago. New York, St. Louis. Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, Washington and Indianapolis. If Ban Johnson had the correct Idea when he started his league which surely seems to be the case the Federal leaguers apparently found the right track too But as Ban Johnson and Bill Shakespearp have 'said perhaps they jumped the track. |
