Shoriff Fred Harris of Davis county cntorod upon a determined search today for clcw3 which may lead to tho discovery discov-ery of the person who shot to death Henry Jlobcrts, wealthy Layton farmer, farm-er, Friday afternoon. Ho is being assisted by all his deputies and County Coun-ty Attorney Ezra C. Robinson of Bountiful. Boun-tiful. Both the shoriff and county attorney feel hopeful of developing substantial clews though the murder of Roberts now appears shrouded In mystery. "Jn the event that our investiga-tion investiga-tion falls to develop evidence which we hopo to get In a few days, recommendation recom-mendation will bo made to the county commissioners to offor a substantial rewnrd for information leading to tho arrest of tho person who killed Roberts," Rob-erts," said Mr. Robinson tonight. "I will suggest that a reward of possibly pos-sibly $500 bo offered. The investigation investi-gation appears to have developed without a single doubt that Roberts was shot to death by some unknown person who may have been aided in his escape by tho heavy willow hedge which partially surrounds the Roberts' Rob-erts' home." Sheriff Harris arrived In Layton at 3 o'clock this afternoon and went to tho homo where Henry RobcrtB was shot to death Friday. He took note of the position in which Roberts was found shortly before life became oxtinct, the bullet wound in the aged farmer's head and the course it took after penetrating the skull. He gauged the groove it cut in the kitchen kitch-en ceiling and discovered that a nail had deflected its course, causing It to carom and dent a stovepipe just below the groove. So far as given out the sheriff found little of new evidence in the case. He was unable to ascertain that anyone was seen prowling about tho Roberts homestead home-stead Friday |
