Show HENRY C. DENHALTER IS CALLED BEYOND Salt Lake, Jan. 27. Harry C. Den-halter, Den-halter, well known and highly respected re-spected during a long career in this city, died at the L. D. S. hospital yesterday yes-terday after an illness from throat trouble covering two weeks. Mr. Denhalter was a native of Germany, Ger-many, having been born in Neue kircho, Holdedorf, June G. 1S32. He was the son of Herman H., and Molina Mo-lina Denhalter, and was married to Kathrlne Lesher. Surviving him are two sons, Charles H. and John H., both living In this city. Prior to going to the hospital ten days, ago, Mr. Denhalter Den-halter had lived with his son, Charles H., at the Tuckett apartments. It was In 1849 that Mr. Denhalter came to the United States, going directly di-rectly to San Francisco during the gold excItemenL Later he returned east, settling at St. Louis, Mo., where he plied a steamboat on the Mississippi Missis-sippi river as captain. He engagea in business In St. Louis, after quitting the river steamer service, and then went to New York, where for a year he conducted a business. In 1S68 Mr. Denhalter came to Utah, settling In Salt Lake City. In 1S70 he established the Denhalter Bottling Bot-tling Works, which is still in operation. opera-tion. When the concern was Incorporated Incor-porated In 1907 he was elected president presi-dent and held that position at the I time of his death. Mr. Denhalter in 1S94 founded the Denhalter rifles, a well drilled military mili-tary organization, some of whose members later joined the National Guard of Utah and a few of whom served in tho Philippines during the Spanish-American war. He supplied the original organization with rifles and uniforms at his own personal e.v pense. In 1894 he fathered the Den- f halter Rifles band, as a companion ! !" organization to the military company V This bnnd became famous throughout the state. Mr. Denhalter was a prominent member of the Liberal party, and with ' others stood behind Its chairman, I'i' the late Judge O. W. Powers, when f- that political organization won 3 ! 1 final victory which caused disband- ment of the old People's partv and ( Jr brought about division In Utah upon & national political lines. , |
