Show SEVEN i SNOWSLIDE; THREE PERSONS . KILLED - Price, Utah, Jan. 26. A snowslirie occurred at Storrs, a new mining camp, about seven miles above Helper, Help-er, at 10 o'clock this morning, which cost the lives of three porsons, injured in-jured four others and completely demolished de-molished three houses. The slide was due to an exceptionally exception-ally heavy fall of snow, followed by warm weather, and came down the mountain without a second's warning, completely demolishing the three houses hou-ses and burying the occupants under from three to ten feet of snow. Res cuers were on hand within a few minutes min-utes and the dead and Injured were dug from the debris and cared for. One man, a Greek, when dug out of tho slide was found to be uninjured, ! but was nearly crazed with fright. nn oo I TOMMY BURNS WINS FROM BATTLING BRANT Taft, Cal., Jan. 26. Tommy Burns, ex-heavyweight champion, knocked out Battling Brant of San Francisco in the fourth round tonight. When the first bell rang, Burns jumped to the center of the ring and boxed with the speed of a middleweight. Brant is a big, strong follow, with very little kuowledge of boxing and Burns dazzled him with his speed and feinting. Burns tried to end the battle In the first round, and at the finish of the round both men were fighting at a, furious rate. Both men were tired in the fourth. Burns switched his attack to the body, landing a hard left shift which caused Brant to double up. After receiving three hard right uppercuts, Brant was practically out and dropped drop-ped his arms. Referee Blake stopped the fight After the bout Burns said: "I am sure I can come back after a few weeks' hard training. I would like to get Kid Kennedy here, and after that bout I will be ready tor Gunboat Smith." |
