Show oo BOY DRANK LIQUOR FROM A BOTTLE ON NEW YEAR'S Four out of six New Year's day offenders of-fenders were treated with leniency by Judge Reeder this morning In the municipal court Of the others, one forfeited bail and the other had his case taken under advisement. David Lilies, a drunk, was the first one up and he was given a suspended sentence. A G. Tribe charged with speeding, had his case taken under advisement. Tribe was taken into custody by Detective De-tective Bob Burke and pleaded guilty. In teliing of the circumstances which ' caused his arrest, he said that he was 1 takln? some friends to the depot and ! that it was very close to train time, i He had been able to determine the j speed at which car was running by I a speedometer, but that it was broken and at the time of his arrest he could not tell how fast he was going. Thomas Murphy and Henry Tre-mayne Tre-mayne were arrested by officer James Hearn and brought to the police station sta-tion in the auto patron. Both were drunk. Murphy said in court that he was trying to take Treraayne to his room when the patrol arrived. The Judge gave him a suspended sentence. Tremayne is a crippled shoe-lace and pencil peddler. He has been In court a number of times for making himself obnoxious to pedestrians and when he said, "If you'll let me go. Judge I'll leave town," Judge Reeder said "Goodbye and don't come back." John Doe, a drunk, said that the breaking up of his home, has driven him to drink. He agreed with the judge, however, that the drink had only made matters worse and, after listening to some advice, he said that he would quit drinking, go back to his work in Pocatello, Idaho, and save his money. While waiting for one of his friends, he accepted the invitation of a stranger stran-ger and took a drink out of a bottle. That was all he knew until he sobered up In jail. He was given a good lec- ture and, on promise of absolute abstinence ab-stinence in the future, was given his 1 freedom under a six months suspended suspend-ed sentence. Annie Palmer, charged with drunkenness, drunk-enness, forfeited $5 bail. |
