Show SECRETARY WILL PRESENTDEMAND Governor West Sends Peremptory Peremp-tory Command to Copper-field, Copper-field, Oregon Officials. CITY MUST COMPLY If Saloons Are Not Closed Saturday Sat-urday Afternoon Martial Law Will Be Declared. Portland, Ore , Jan, 2. Miss Fern Hobbs, private secretary to Governor Yest. is expected to reach Copper field. Ore., today, accompanied by state officers, where she will present the governor s demands to the off l cials of that town. In this demand, which is addressed to the mayor aad members of the city council, the go ernor cites the law under which he proposes to close the saloons, and al so his reasons for wanting them to be closed. He states that if they aie not closed up Saturday arternoon, martial law will be declared and the militia may be called upon to carry out his orders. The following demands de-mands are made by the governor: First, for the resignation of the mayor and such members of the council coun-cil as are proprietors or employed in and about any establishment dispensing dispens-ing intoxicating liquors. Second, that until a complete reorganization reor-ganization of the city government can be undertaken, all saloons be closed forthwith and be kept closed, and, Third, to prevent any possibility of liquors being sold, that the stock on hand be shipped out of the city, and that it be delivered to the railroad station for shipment not later than 4 p. m , Saturday, January 3, 1914. oo |
