Attornev Fredericks challenged challeng-ed the legal right of Mr, Evans to sit as chairman of the board and declared de-clared that he was "also unfit for tho position by reason of his temperament tempera-ment and caustic mannerisms. " The controversy, according to the Los Angeles Times, arose over the fact that one of the stenographers in I the district attorney's office had bovin declared Ineligible for the position frho occupied. The district attorney and other friends of the stenographer appear to have taken up tho cause of that employe Captain Fredericks asserting that Mr Evans was endeavoring en-deavoring to hamper the work of his office. "I am convinced that jou are not a proper man for the chil seiwlce commission, ' said Attorney Fredericks Freder-icks at the commission meeting "You are not eligible for one reason, because you were on the Democratic cr.mpalgn committee within a year of yohr appointment on the commission I do not think you are fitted on other grounds."
