Show I REWARD INCREASED BY THE STATE OF UTAH On last Saturday Governor Spry increased the reward for the Ogden blackhandere from $500 to $5500, and for this act he has the thanks of every ev-ery law abiding citizen of Ogden. The Standard was displeased when the Governor made the original reward re-ward only $500 and pointed out that the amount should be increased to a sum large enough to prove tempting to any one who could furnish lnfor mation that would lead to the capture cap-ture of the bandita. Our morning contemporary opposed the position taken b the Standard and devoted much space in attempting attempt-ing to prove that the limit of a 6tate reward had been reached. The Standard holds that the prl mary object of government Is to maintain security of life and property. prop-erty. Our declaration of Independence Independ-ence makes that purpose of government govern-ment fundamental. When the ordinary ordi-nary processes fall, then those lu authority, commissioned to preserve the peace, must resort to the extraordinary, extra-ordinary, and in this case, the state I waa obligated to do Its utmost. The governor, when fully Informed b the Standard as to the serous ness of the situation, was quick to j respond bv increasing the reward to I large proportions.
