Show MANY MINERS IN GOLDFI ELD CAMP Gold field. Nev., March 3. A mate-I mate-I rial increase In mining activity in tho Goldfleld district over that of a year ; ago Is indicated In convincing man ner by the number of men employed I in and about the mines of the camp A none too comprehensive canvass of the companies operating, reliable as far as It goes, shows that approximately approxi-mately 835 men are on the pay rolls of th3 mining companies and the one sampler, operated by the Western Ore Purchasing company. This Is a considerably larger number num-ber of men than were employed in the district a year ago and It is practi cally certain that the total will be largely increased during the next few months, as a number of the companies compa-nies that arc now devoting their efforts ef-forts to dead work or shaft sinking will soon reach the point where lat-cial lat-cial development, with consequent additional ad-ditional working room, will require the services of more men. Forces of Big Mines- Of the total mentioned, the Consolidated Consol-idated Mines company has at the present pres-ent time 621 men on Its pay roll. Of i this number about 85 are employed In connection with the mill and a few others on the rnllroad and in the chemical laboratory and sampler, having more than 4u0 whose work Is underground or in connection with ore production At least ten of the other mining companies will without with-out doubt increase their working forces for-ces during the present season, j The Goldfield Merger Mines com-j com-j pany is now employing on an average of 60 men, the Jumbo Extension com-I com-I pany 22. and the remainder is made i up by the Florence Goldfleld, C. O. D.. Consolidated, Goldfield Oro. Sandstorm-Kendall Consolidated, New Jersey Jer-sey Mines company. Nevada Eagle, Silver Pick Consolidated. Booth, Blue-Bull. Blue-Bull. Lone Star Consolidated. Vernal, Diamondfleld Black Butte, Goldfleld Mining & Ore Reduction company. Goldfield Belmont, and a few outside or Independent properties and leases. Those most likely to Increase their mining forces within a short time are j the Goldfield Oro. Florence Goldfield, Silver Pick, Blue Bull and Vernal High Scale of Wages. Oil most of these properties the work pertormed up to this time has j been dead work or preparatory work, hot in ?cv il instances a point has now been reached where real mine development will be carried on, with favorable chances for opening ore bodies bod-ies that can be mined profitably. Where the work is confined to the sinking of a shaft, as on the Blue Bull, Booth, Oro. New Jersey Mines and elsewhere, only a small force of men can be used Conditions In this 9 district are excellent for the miners, j with the highest wage scale in the JL country and every' approved safety device in use in the mines The LVaa miners are of the best type of men employed in this work, almost all of them Americans and most of them with their families and homes in the 1 camp. 00 I |
