Show CHANCE FOR I FIRST BASE Will Be Playing Manager Man-ager of New York Americans With Chase Second Sack I New York, March 4 Chance will ( play first base and Chase second, according ac-cording to what is described as offi cial information today from the New York American league club's training quarters in Bermuda. Ever since Frank Chance signed as the new manager man-ager of the New Yorks there has been speculation as to whether he would be a beuch or playing manager, and also gossip as to the position which Hal Chase, the former manager, would take. With the arrival of another party of players at Bermuda yesterday the entire en-tire New York squad Is now at work and tinder auspicious conditions, ac cording to reports from the training camp. Chance, having become con vinced that his lege will stand the pace, is credited with the definite an nouncement that he will play firm when the 9eason opens. He said he tnougnt it was easier roi a manager on the firing line to cull on his men to "come on" than to sit on the bench and say "go on " Chance is anxious to have Chase take the keystone of the infield and in practice work he is declared to be making woodertul plays at that post. If Chase is kept at second base he will be the first left handed second baseman the major leagues have seen for many years. Ford and Fisher are being developed strenuously as pitchers. |
