Show MEXICO SHOWS ITS INSTABILITY. The treachery of General Hucrla gives us a poor onuion of Mexicans generally The absence of patriotism patriot-ism and loyaltv conveys to our mind a condition that lends Itself to endless end-less dissension and fighting. President Madero. if he hail faith in any one, was entitled to look to his commanding officer as trustworthy, trust-worthy, but in Mexico, it seems, no man can repose confidence in his closest associate without meeting with disappointment If Mexico Is a nation of perfidious men. then the rountry is unworthy of 6elf-go ernment and should be invaded invad-ed and discipline! by a superior power. No wonder there is rebellion and constant warfare! The Mexican character as exemplified in Huerta Is too volatile to be loyal to anyone or any form of government. The thought of a dictatorship in any country Is repugnant to the merican mind, hut we have reached the conclusion that Mexico Is in need of a military despot at its head and that, after all, Diaz knew his people when he ruled them with an Iron hand and kept them whipped Into subjection. Madero, th hero of two years ago and the acclaimed ruler, is today the object of intense hatred and any one who dares to sieak his praise in the streets of the capital Is In daneer of mobbing. Diaz, to whom he showed leniency when caught in an act of treason, has supplanted Madero as the Mexican idol In the meantime Ornzco continues bis guerrilla conflict con-flict and serves notice that he Will not yield to the ne?.- government What future ha9 a nation made up of such restless, murderous, treacherous treach-erous men" N'ono whatever, unless jthe United States sees fit to cross the (border and spank the whole lawless 1 band. i |
