Show JOE CARROLL IS TO SERVE IN CITYJAIL Joe Carroll, arrested last night In the railroad vards and charged with vagrancy, did nol know whether he was drunk or sober when he fuced Judge Reedor this morning He pleaded plead-ed guilty more from fon e of habit than anything else, he said, because he did not remember that he did anything any-thing except call on a gentleman In the railroad yards Afterwurd he ad mined that he went looking for work, carrying a large quantity of alcohol inside. The railroad officer stated that Carroll had arrived In town two dnvs ago and tried to secure a free bed in a switchman's shanty by offer ing the employe a drink When he was refused permission to sleep, he left, but later came back and said that no one could drive him awav becauae he was a government detective. U hen he was brought to the station a bottle (ontalning alcohol was found ou him. but no monev or valuables Judge Reeder told Carroll that It would require 10 days to sober hlin up and so ordered that that sentence be recorded |
