Show AND SHIPPERS VOTE the board of trade ct san franciso 0 embracing in its membership ivady all tho wholesale and shipping louses of the chief city ot the pacific has adopted tho following as he opinion of ita members upon a arge and carefully considered question whereas tho present welfare of he manufacturers producers wholesalers and jobbers of the pacific coast ind the future growth and develop nent of their various and varied busness interests depend largely upon i system of rate making by the trans continental railroads by which the cr minal rate to which the jobbing ind manufacturing cities of the coast ire justly entitled by reason of competition li recognized and whereas tho assistance rendered ahe manufacturers wholesalers and clobbers lobbers of the pacific coast by the rans continental railroads in combat ng an effort to establish rates based n distance or mileage us hat the interests of the coast will ast be served by leaving the authority 0 o make rates where it Is now in the lands of the carriers who arc familiar alth the exceptional conditions an the pacific coast and tho to review by the interstate corn nerce commission upon complaint of he shipper who feels that a given rate s wrong now therefore be it 6 resolved that the board of trade t san francisco while expressing he highest respect for and confidence n personally and collectively the of the interstate commerce commission respectfully urges that 10 legislation be adopted whereby said commission would be given the right to make rates as in and not to the advantage it business interests of this y and that we recommend in lieu hereof that tho commission be in greased to seven members and that in I 1 ica of tho vast commercial interests and the differences governing atlon on the pacific coast lud in the northwest that tho two ica members thus added to the corn should be appointed one from h pacific coast and one from tao so that all geographical sections of the country would be rep resented esen ted and bo it further alv under which the at present operating Is in our judgment a proper on it props measures are taken to expedite the hearing ot cases upon appeal which would contemplate the establishment of a court of transportation whose decision would be final except in cases where abo constitutionality tiona lity of tho decree was questioned |
