Show DENIAL OF INSURANCE STORY new york nov aj president Pies ident frederick A burnham of the mutual re erve life insurance company issued a statement last night in reply to the of james D wells a former vice president of the company before a canadian senate committee air wells testified before the canadian committee in 1904 that he had heard from bunham that louis F balne when he was state superintendent of insurance in 1898 offered for to allow the mutual reserve to write the report of an investigation which the state insurance department had made mr wells also testified hat mr burnham told him that he paid for a manuscript copy of he report the statement which bore a note saying that it was from georga burnham counsel of the mutual reserve Is n part as follows no money vas ever demanded by or paid directly or indirectly to the superintendent or any persona connected with tho new yort insurance departments or the purpose of influencing or accepting any report upon the mutual reserve the story is the invention of one J D wells formerly a vice president whose services wars dispensed with nearly seven yeara ago has since spared no pains to attack the company and the present management in every possible place the canadian investigation was moved by a senator who was a former agent of te company which had cut off his advances tho canadian committee at its session to rise and report he evidence afterwards seven of the nineteen members got together and formulated what purported to be a report which was expunged by the senate what is printed in a part of iha sunday journals as the finding of the committee is simply what ono senator member of the committee gave notice he would move of als the conclusion to be drawn from the evidence another member t the committee gave a similar notice with one entirely different set of findings but fi neither motion has ever apen acted on the statement that no action was taken by the attorney general of new york on the charges referred to as filed against the management of th mutual reserve is incorrect they were investigated and dismissed by him |
