STEAMER BADLY damaged bA MAGED eureka CU nov 21 with her bulwarks bulwa smashed in mesa room and state rooms flooded th steamer north fork put into port morning after having a close call from de on ho iker s in sin ta illation for a week ane north fork was well in when an immense sea lumped up behind her and broke full on her stern the bulwarks bulwa were washed away in a twinkling the water rushed into the dining room and galley flooding the compartments to the depth ot three feet causing much damage fortunately the steamer was able to continue despite the pounding she had received but by all hands it was con a narrow escape shortly following the accident steward E M lake of oakland while bailing out the mesa room fell through an open hatch with the result that all the ribs on his right side were broken
